Thank You, Dr. Furtak!

The staff and patients of BMC cannot adequately express the gratitude they have for Dr. Anastasia Furtak who served here from January 2019 through October 2020.

Dr. Furtak was a miraculous answer to prayer as she came willing to fill in as BMC’s primary surgical consultant during Dr. Haun’s year-long sabbatical. That year-long commitment turned into nearly a year and a half as the global COVID-19 pandemic prevented the Haun family from returning as planned.

During what will be remembered as one of BMC’s most difficult seasons, Dr. Furtak diligently worked alongside BMC House Officer Dr. Isabella Amese despite the challenges the pandemic presented. The two physicians work long hours for months as they had no support from the usual flow of expat volunteers due to the border closings from April until September.

We are sad to see Dr. Furtak go but know that she deserves and needs some repose after working so hard as a long-term volunteer at BMC. We also extend our gratitude to the George Faile Foundation for the support it provided her. Most of all we praise God for his sovereignty and grace in bringing her to Nalerigu during the time when she was most needed.
